I have been slowly working on a sculptural light fixture for over our kitchen island, and thought I would share the progress.
The first prototype above was done in steel and brass and I was very happy with the results. However, it weighed far too much since the plan was to cantilever it from a wood base. So I reconstructed all of the brass parts that you see with aluminum instead to lightweight it.
Above is the reconstructed version after a coat of gloss black. The branch is about 4 feet long so it cantilevers quite a bit. I'm really happy with how it turned out. You can also see the wood base. I'm going to trim a little off of the wood vertical down rod, but I purposely wanted it to be long. The branch attaches with a brass swivel. All that is left is to disassemble it, wire all the components and put it back together, do some touch up painting and then hardwire the fixture.
